On the Leiter side of Largs
After watching a documentary on New York street photographer Saul Leiter, I wanted to see if I could replicate his colours using the Fujifilm film simulations with a new recipe.
Its still a pretty dull period in Ayrshire, with a lot of frost and rain, and the skies are usually grey or white - thankful this characteristic features in much of Leiter's work. In terms of kit I was using;
Camera: Fujifilm XM5
Lens: 7Artisans 35mm 1.4
The recipe was a bit tricky and I played about a lot with it during the week before heading out, I kept jumping between a base film of Classic Chrome, Classic Negative and Eterna Bleach, all gave something that would allow you to recreate his colours to an extend, which is a positive thing as it means nearly all Fuji cameras should be able to achieve the look.
Leiter had a unique style that involved an abstract element to street photography, often using longer lens and shooting through layers, I don't have a long lens for my fuji, so I settled for 35mm. Leiter also used reflective surfaces, mostly glass or even mirror as a surface to catch light.
Here are the results.
