Ikea, a Car and a Camera

The weather has been a disaster, without having a weather-sealed camera or a water-resistant lens, I have struggled to get shooting, however, I recently found two great bad weather shoot locations, that firmly keep in the theme of Street Photography.

I'm not going to make you read the whole of this blog, and build suspense before giving away these two mystery locations, they are Ikea and the Passenger seat of a car..... there was a massive hint in the title.  At the end of January 2025, the West of Scotland was continually battered with wet and windy weather, specifically a storm named Eowyn that claimed fences and roof tiles from Girvan to Oban.

I was stuck inside, which I hate, it makes me grumpy, so any chance to get out and about I took, once such opportunity was a trip to Ikea, Braehead (just south of Glasgow), an opportunity that traditionally I would pass on, but on this occasion I was keen to see if my tiny Fujifilm X-M5 would work as a stealthy shooter.

The first stop was to a petrol station, and from the off I could tell that the photo gods were shining down upon me...

This photo was basically a mistake, I was keying in a Fujifilm Recipe and wanted to test the look, but I soon realised after firing off a few shots that the layers of shooting from in a car, across a forecourt, and through a second well-illuminated window..... worked!

After a few minutes I was on my way, the next stop Ikea, which let me tell you, is a treasure trove of semi well lit candid paradise.  There was mirors and frames, and layers to be had, and most importantly, lots of people......

On the way home there was also a fair bit of shooting to be had as I sat in the passenger seat and got carted southbound to head back home.

Everything shot in this blog was taken on a Fujifilm X-M5, with a Viltrox 56mm lens.  Everything was taken straight from camera as a Jpeg.  The recipe used was "Melon Moon" from Cptn Look  you can check out a youtube short with more photos of the day and some video footage using the recipe by clicking here
