Glasgow by Day, Glasgow by Low Light

For the first time since returning to photography, I went on a proper City Street Photography walk.  The City being Glasgow, the day being a very cold but dry 7th of January, and the light ranged from very low to overcast.

I can think back to many days in Glasgow when I worked in the City Centre, spending my lunch hour and often an hour post work snapping the life of the City.  A lot of things have changed since then, a major one being the COVID pandemic, which definitely changed the dynamic of Glasgow, the City has lost a bit of bustle, and I'm afraid to say sparkle.  I don't know if it is because the City is a lot quieter with fewer office workers as more people work from home, the negative side of the City seems to be more noticeable than it was pre-pandemic.

One thing that has not changed though, is the power-hungry security guards, and environmental enforcement officers who seem to really dislike photographers, even today within minutes of reaching the City Centre I had a yellow coat out at me asking what I was doing photographing near the JP Morgan building on Argyle Street.

Today's session was a project of two halves, the first taken in low light from 07:30am to 08:30am, the second during overcast midday skies from 1pm to 2pm; the Kit for today was;

Camera: Fujifilm XM5

Lens: 7Artisans 35mm 1.4

Recipe: All Photos are the XPro 62 Recipe found here

I've separated the project into "Glasgow by Low Light", and "Glasgow by Daylight".  Shooting for this lets me test a recipe in a spectrum of conditions. XPro 62 is a cross-processed effect recipe, I always loved the look of cross-process prints, so was really keen to try it.  The recipe is very realistic to the film it simulates, but I thing the overcast and low light conditions didn't offer the opportunity of the colours needed to make it truly impactful...... see what you think below....

In conclusion, this was a great exercise to really familiarise myself with manual mode, I was constantly having to amend ISO and Shutter speed while adjusting F stops on the manual focus lens.
